Blogger “The Reverend Internet Jim Jesus” now exposes Peter Joseph:
Interesting, yes? However that quote is not in ‘The General Theory of Unemployment, Interest and Money.’ In fact there is not book called “The General Theory of Unemployment, Interest and Money.” I’m sore some of my economic junkies are folding their arms reading that, but let me clarify.
There is no book titled: ‘The General Theory of Unemployment, Interest and Money.’ Keynes treatise was titled “‘The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money’ and it wasn’t written in 1931. It was written in 1936 and discusses the Great Depression mostly in the years 1929-1935. This quote was from an essay published in 1930 titled: Economic Possibilities for our Grandchildren
I submit this error was intentional. The reason why is because the very next paragraph shows clearly that Keynes did not hold this to be accurate. This is a deliberate quote mine, there’s no way around it.
For the moment the very rapidity of these changes is hurting us and bringing difficult problems to solve. Those countries are suffering relatively which are not in the vanguard of progress. Good Find. I don’t care who you are or what your agenda is, but all that I want is for people to be kept accountable. Peter wanted to build a cult of personality around himself and have a movement based of HIS films, thats awfully narcissistic.

Peter Joseph is a liar, of course, but the main factor here is his incompetence. On economics, as with religion, he blindly follows others when they tell him what he wants to hear. He regurgitated Jordan Maxwell and Acharya S in religion and 9/11 “truther” conspiracy claims but never independenly verifies anything. My guess is he saw this quotemined by some other crackpot somewhere and just copied it. Frankly, Peter Joseph is far too intellectually lazy to quotemine … he just steals the quotemines of others and claims them as his own.
I’ve been digging, and I cannot find anyone using that quote without the second paragraph who’s not a Zeitgeister. Anytime it’s been quoted, the last paragraph follows because after that paragraph, the chapter ends. It seems as if this quote mine is a Merola original.
This particular phrase was quotemined by Jeremy Rifkin in “The End of Work: The Decline of the Global Labor Force and the Dawn of the Post-Market Era (see p. 24). Given Rifkin’s anti-market stance, I think it is entirely possible that Joseph read Rifkin and ripped off the latter’s quotemine.
On the other hand, I hear he plays a mean marimba.

They should be obvious truths or pearls of wisdom that stand on their own merits, A quotation should be able to stand on its own without having to attach a name to it. The only purpose the name attached to a quotation should serve is to give credit to the person that first discovered it.

Peter often uses the famous name as an “appeal to authority” that relies on credentialism to manipulate people to accept the quotation that precedes it as a “truth”. It is a way of bypassing a person’s critical thinking to accept an idea that a person would otherwise reject.
His movies and his writings are filled with interviews and quotations with famous people where he selectively edits what people have said and picks out only the parts that agree with the narrative that he is trying to construct. He conveniently ignores anything said by his “experts” that contradict his narrative.
On one hand we have him complaining about credentialism and how we should be willing to ignore the experts whenever we disagree with them, while on the other hand we have him making an appeal to credentialism by twisting the words of the so called experts to make them say what he wants them to say.
Peter is just exercising the craft of propaganda he learned from the likes of Edward Bernays and Joseph Goebbels.
Is this worth the money? Why would someone do this otherwise… taking something and making it biased towards what he wants manipulate people to believe in. That is just sickness my friends ;o)

You scrutinize Peter’s talks based on what exactly? Your arguments are filled with personal attacks. But you never argue directly against the IDEAS. What are your thoughts on the ideas he espouses. I think what he proposes makes sense. It’s a scientific approach to societal structure that could remedy many of this planets ills. Which ideas specifically do you think is cult-like? Which ones do you feel threatened by? The idea that nothing is really owned? What did Jesus ‘own.’ I haven’t once heard an intelligent argument form you in your favor. The free market is not free. It’s a debt-slave creating destruction machine that’s chewing up this planet and twisting values. This world doesn’t have to be one where capital is more important than people and the environment. So go on hating the man who can articulate this better than anyone, but until you can make a case for why the IDEAS are bad, you’ll only being winning over the folks too dumb to understand the ideas or so hateful as to ignore them. Take this TEDx and talk not about what the man talking must be ‘secretly planning’ but tell me which ideas you disagree with and why. If your arguments are sound, I’ll listen. Otherwise, continue to hold each other screaming into the darkness about why you hate some dude.
